He is returning from an injury that ruled him out of the Paris Olympics in 2024
Antonio Watson has recovered from his injury and is set to return to sprinting. The World 400 metres champion will be competing in the upcoming Racers Grand Prix. He will be in action on June 7th.
He will be hoping to defend his world title in the latter parts of the year. The Jamaican sprinter was forced out of the last Olympic Games due to injury.
Antonio Watson is set to make his return to competitive action at the Racers Grand Prix on June 7, as the Jamaican sprinter begins his campaign to defend his global title later this year.
The 23-year-old said that he is mentally sharper after recovering from his injury. He is planning on delivering a vintage performance at the Kingston meet. This is a special competition for him because it is where he had his breakthrough.
“I’m in a good place both mentally and physically. I’m feeling better than I was feeling in 2024. I’m feeling healthy and my preparation has been topnotch,” Watson said.
Watson secured a personal best of 44.75 seconds when he won the “B” final in the 2023 edition of the Racers Grand Prix. This was his international debut. He went on to enjoy a breakout season in which he won the world title in Budapest and came second at Jamaica’s national championships.
He won the world title after securing a lifetime best of 44.22. This means that he is the second Jamaican to win the event after Bert Cameron.
It’s unfortunate that his momentum was broken by an injury setback. The National Stadium will be used to stage the Racers Grand Prix. Watson will use this event for his symbolic comeback.
I want to deliver a memorable performance because this is the event that introduced to the world,” Watson said.
