Fraser-Pryce Loses World Athlete of the Year Award to Sydney McLaughlin-Leverone

McLauglin-Leverone has had a brilliant season and he even broke the world record twice in 2022.

McLaughlin-Leverone has been declared as the winner of this year’s World Athletic Female Athlete of the Year award. She is a world record holder as well as a World and Olympic 400-metre hurdles champion.
McLaughlin-Leverone received her award in a ceremony that was held today. The 23-year-old was facing stiff competition from world 100m hurdles champion and world record holder, Tobi Amusan and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce; the Jamaican five-time world 100m champion.
McLauglin-Leverone has had a brilliant season and he even broke the world record twice in 2022. She achieved this fete in clocking a staggering 50.68 seconds at the World Championships in Oregon in July. This performance saw her secure the title.
The award of the Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to World champion pole vaulter and world record holder Mondo Duplantis. This was in response of winning the world title. His impressive performance also saw him set a new world record of 6.21 metres.
The Rising Stars winners’ award was awarded to Serbia’s Adriana Villagos and American Erriyon Knighton. This award is meant to reward the best female and male under-20 athletes respectively.
