Coach Marcel Gayle has had Limited Time to Prepare

The Concacaf under 20 Men’s Championship is scheduled for June 18th to July 3rd this year. With this period soon approaching, Jamaica’s coach, Marcel Gayle, is working against time to set up a competitive team to represent the nation in the tournament.

Gayle has only had a limited number of training camps with the players since he was assigned the role recently in March. He expressed that he wished to have the players for an extended period so as to assemble the best team.

However, due to financial difficulties, prolonging the practice and training period is not achievable. All Gayle can do is hope everything falls in place before the competition begins.

Gayle explained that he still needs to find a defensive midfielder and a center-forward from a variety of both local and overseas-based players. He said that the team is mainly searching for a number nine and a number six.

Marcel revealed that 7 players from abroad were invited to the last camp they had last week. He further revealed that another bunch have been invited to the next camp. Be that as it may, he hopes to have finalized the squad within the coming two to three weeks.

Gayle also disclosed that this tournament will be the highest level at this age group, thus his team will be playing against professional and semi-professional players in a couple of weeks.

The team is set to meet Premier League outfit Arnett Gardens in a practice match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
