West Indies Legend Kieron Pollard Retires from International Cricket

Pollard Scored 2706 Runs and Took 55 Wickets in ODI Cricket

Kieron Pollard recently hit the internet to announce the end of his international cricket career. The 34-year-old has enjoyed a legendary career as a West Indies all-rounder.

He has won the West Indian colors for approximately 15 years. He said that he hopes that his retirement will help create room for young talented players.

Pollard had a glittering career that was filled with many memorable moments. The power-packed player was known for his entertaining performances. In fact, he built a loyal fan base that filled stadiums.

He led the West Indies as a captain during turbulent times but he did a decent job. In 2019, he was named as captain of the T20 and ODI teams. His biggest moments as captain came with series wins over England and Australia.

Many people remember the six sixes he hit off Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya. What made this onslaught even more remarkable was that Dananjaya had taken a hat-trick just an over before the carnage.

Pollard is the first men’s player to represent West Indies in over 100 T20I matches, and also pulling on the maroon shirt 123 times in ODIs.

In 2012, He was an important player when his team secured the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup. Unfortunately, injuries stopped him from participating in the West Indies’ victory in the 2016 tournament.

Pollard thanked his fans for supporting him through good and bad times. He said that the fans have always shown him unwavering support during his career.

Pollard scored 2706 runs and took 55 wickets in ODI cricket. And in T20Is he racked up 1569 runs at a strike rate of 135.14, while also picking up 42 wickets with his handy medium pace.

And in March 2021 Pollard became only the third player in the history of the men’s international game to hit six sixes in a single over. His performance against Dananjaya placed him among cricket greats like Yuvraj Singh, Herschelle Gibbs and USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra.
