Jamaica Will Participate in Games like Rugby Sevens, Weightlifting and Wrestling

The 2022 Commonwealth Games are set to take place from 28th July to 8th August 2022. The international multi-sport event will take place in Birmingham, England.

This event is reserved for members of the Commonwealth. The 72 participating nations have a history of being former colonies of Great Britain.

The city of Birmingham will host the Games for the first time ever. The event will take place in summer, with comfortable temperature highs of 21 degrees Celcius. Some of the sports in display include Basketball, Swimming, Cycling, Cricket and Athletics.

The venues being used for the event stretch from Coventry, Solihull, Royal Leamington Spa, Cannock Chase Forest, Sandwell and more.

Due to the rescheduling of other major sporting events such as the UEFA European Women’s Championship, the entire schedule of the Games has been moved by a day from its original dates to avoid any clashes.

These games were originally referred to as the British Empire Games when they were started in 1930, in Hamilton, Canada.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) conducts these games every four years (except for 1942 and 1946 due to World War II).

This year’s games will feature appearances from some of the best athletes from countries like India Australia, Jamaica and England. For instance, Australia has named its swimming team that will superstar names like decorated champion Ellie Cole OAM and teenage sensation Isabella Vincent.

The Indian cricket team will feature big names like Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav.

Jamaica has built a reputation for winning medals every time it participates in the Commonwealth Games. Perhaps the most high-profile win was n 2014 when Usain Bolt won gold together with his teammates in the 4×100-metres.

This year’s event will see Jamaica participate in rugby sevens, weightlifting and wrestling. The weightlifting athletes include Sientje Henderson, Omarie Mears, Sky Norris and Chloe Whylie.
