Reggae Boyz Needs a Spark Against Costa Rica

After two rounds of games the Reggae Boyz finds themselves rooted at the bottom of the table with 0 points and a -4 goal difference. In the opening game against Mexico in the Azteca, they lost to a late goal from Marin of Mexico 2-1, and in the second game inside the National Stadium, Kingston Jamaica deemed “The Office” they were mauled by the system playing Panamanians 3-0. Panama looked a more cohesive team and ran the “tactically” wrong Jamaicans all over the pitch. The coaching staff of the Reggae Boyz decided to go with what looks like 4 attacking players in Michail Antonio, Kemar Roofe, Cory Burke, and Bobby Reid, while in midfield no solidified defensive midfielder as Ravel Morrison and Daniel Johnson both box-to-box players was deployed. Ravel Morrison wasn’t giving the opportunity to strut is stuff as he was concern about plugging that hole which is not in his game, while he and Daniel Johnson tried to connect. Cory Burke worked is socks off but you can see the efficiency of his efforts was wrongly deployed.

Looking ahead to the third game of this CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying in this window of games, the Reggae Boyz comes up against Costa Rica, in San Jose. In Costa Rica first game they got 1 point from Panama in a draw and lost 1-0 to Mexico. The Reggae Boyz will be without some of the UK Based players such as Michail, Antonio, Kemar Roofe, Bobby Reid, Ravel Morrison, and Daniel Johnson, Ethan Pinnock, Wesley Harding to name a few. Anthony Grant had an impressive game in the Mexico game and Jamaica could well use his services in the Costa Rica match, as the Reggae Boyz as found themselves in a difficult situation. Coach Theodore “Tappa” Whitmore has to get this one tactically and personnel correct, as the Costa Ricans are also desperate for some points as well. Damion Lowe missed the game against Panama, he picked up a knock in the Mexico game and was rested towards the Costa Rica game on September 8, 2021., hopefully he will be fit and ready as this could cause more headaches for the coaching staff. Its not going to be an easy task in Costa Rica with all the elements of available players, but we must try and get a better showing, and get some points on this Road to Qatar World Cup 2022.
