3 min read

The Reggae Boyz fans will be happy to know that Aston Villa’s winger Leon Bailey has been included as part of the squad in the upcoming international break. The Boyz will start off against El Salvador on 12th November. The match has been prepared by the Concacaf World Cup-Qualifiers. The Boyz will then face the United States in their homeland National Stadium on 16th of November. Even though Bailey has been playing while treating numerous injuries all summer, Jamaica’s coaching staff believe that his presence will help propel the team to success. Coach Theodore Whitemore has included the superstar winger in his plans because he offers the team a lot of qualities on the ball.

The 24-year-old had only played twice for his club, this comes after he had missed a total of six games in the qualifiers. He is now seeking to face the Central Americans in an attempt to make his debut in the World Cup qualifiers. The Reggae Boyz coach, Whitemore is therefore hopeful that with Bailey’s presence, the Boyz will get the motivation needed to put them into a higher position. Jamaica currently sits in sixth position in a group of eight teams, with five points from six games. Bailey commenced his career in the English Premier League with a bang. Even though he has had a lot of injuries during the season, he has managed to score one goal and provided two assists in four games.

The team has also welcomed Michail Antonio who is the leading forward in West Ham. Michail missed the qualifiers in September due to a disturbing hamstring. He is now expected to be in the company of his physiotherapist any time he travels for international games. He was assigned his physiotherapist by his club. Antonio missed the match against Honduras and Canada since he had not met the requirements needed for the opportunity to be in the FIFA match held in October.

Other star players who have been welcomed in the squad include: Ravel Morrison, the Derby midfielder who in the last game scored 2-0 for Jamaica against Honduras. Cory Burke, Philadelphia Union forward, was not able to attend the two last matches because of an injury, and Walker Lamar.

However, the locally hailed TryeJamaica has no place in the match since they hold a sixth place with five points in the table. Mexico stands as the lead with a total of 14 points, the United States follows closely with 11 points, Panama 10, and Costa Rica with 6. El Salvador holds 5 points and lastly, Honduras has 3. All these teams have participated in six of the 14 games already.

The full team is made of: Dillon Barnes, Liam Moore, Dwayne Blake, Jaedin White, Adrian Mariappa, Oniel Fisher, Damion Lowe, Alvas Powell, Kemar Lawrence, Gregory Leigh, Anthony Grant, Devon Williams, Ravel Morrison, Je-Vaughn Watson, Bobby Reid, Lamar Walker, Junior Flemmings, Shamar Nicholson, Cory Burke, Andre Grey, Javon East, Michail Antonio, Leon Bailey, and Kemar Roofe. Also, Ethan Pinnok, the Brentford player has been included.
