Reggae Boyz Star Suffers from Fractured Jaw

The Jamaica Football Federation recently revealed that Reggae Boy Shamar Nicholson is currently ruled out of action after sustaining a fractured jaw while playing for his club RSC Charleroi. 

The injury happened in a recent game against Club Brugge in the Belgium league. The Jamaican international was forced out of the pitch after clashing heads with Brandon Mechele of Club Brugge.  Brandon Mechele was trying to head the ball but ended up hitting Nicholson in the face.

The Reggae Boy did his best to continue with the match but he was eventually replaced with Chris Vianney Bédia in the second half. 

The 24-year-old Jamaican plays as a forward and he has been enjoying a spectacular season, scoring 4 goals in the last seven matches.  He even managed to score three goals against Beerschot on 28th August. 

Club Brugge went on to beat Charleroi FC with a narrow 1-0 score line. Club officials revealed that Nicholson received medical attention after the game. Doctors established that he had sustained a fracture after several tests.

The JFF Twitter page said that “Shamar suffered a jaw injury against Club Brugge. Get well soon,” 

Nicholson opened his 2021-22 season about a month ago with a goal against Zulte Waregem, in a match that ended as a 2-2 stalemate.  

He was involved with his national team and even participated in the world cup qualifiers. This caused him to miss his Belgian side’s season opener on July 24. 

In August 2019, Nicholson started his career in Belgium by signing a four-year deal with Charleroi FC. He is currently on his third season. He has also played for Slovenia’s NK Domžale and the Boys’ Town F.C.

Nicholson started his career for Jamaica in the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in 2015. In February 2017, he marked his first appearance for the senior national team with a brilliant performance. Nicholson got his first goal for the Caribbean country in a game against USA on 5 June 2019.

Nicholson is an important part of Jamaica’s star-studded attack and he has a record of 10 goals in his last 19 appearances for the Reggae Boyz.

He scored the opener on 12th July 2021, in a 2-1 win over Suriname in the recently held CONCACAF Gold Cup. Earlier this month, he scored in a 2-1 loss to Mexico and a 1-1 draw with Costa Rica. 

The in-form striker as is set to undergo surgery but he has promised that he will be available in October when Jamaica continues its journey in world cup qualifiers. The Reggae Boyz now need 6 points from the next 3 games to improve their chances of qualifying for the next year’s world cup.
