She Failed to Prove that Her Use of Phentermine Was Not Intentional

Jamaican triple jumper Sabina Allen was given a four-year ban for testing positive for two restricted substances by an independent arbiter.

The 27-year-old who lives and trains in the United States tested positive for di-hydroxy-LGD-4033. This was from her urine sample that was collected on May 29th, 2021 when she won the triple jump in California at the Chula Vista Field Festival.

LGD-4033 is a non-classified drug in the Anabolic Agent class and it is illegal according to World Athletics Anti-Doping rules and the United States doping regulations. On the other hand, Phentermine is considered a stimulant which is prohibited in the competition.

This decision was reached after Allen’s explanations failed to prove that her use of phentermine was not intentional and that the supplement with the LGD-4033 when reviewed revealed signs of manipulation and not contamination.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) used the Rodchenkov Anti-Doping Act (RADA) in acquiring the information needed to reach the decision. This is according to a release by USADA CEO Travis Tygart.

RADA has been in operation since December 2020. It handed American prosecutors the power to go after anyone who tried to cheat in major sports.

However, the act received criticism from the World Anti-Doping Agency which claimed that foreign nations were not to have authority on this matter.

Allen’s ban which began in on June 24th, 2021 will end in 2025. She won the Under-20 triple jump when she represented Jamaica at the 2012 Carifta Games in Bermuda.
