Thompson-Herrah’s Impressive Performance Comes Just Three Days After She Ran in 10.95 Seconds to Secure the 100m Gold

Elaine Thompson-Herah delivered another record-breaking performance when she won the gold medal in the women’s 200m race on Saturday. She set a new Common Wealth Games record with an impressive time of 22.02 seconds. This performance ensured that she secured a sprint double in the Birmingham games.
The silver and bronze medals were taken by Nigeria’s Favour Ofili and Namibia’s Christine Mboma. The two athletes finished with times of 22.51 seconds and 22.80 seconds respectively.
Natalliah Whyte(the other Jamaican in the race) took the fourth position after running within 23.06 seconds.
Thompson-Herrah’s impressive performance comes just three days after she ran in 10.95 seconds to secure the 100m gold. The 30 year-old Jamaican had to fight off competition from Daryll Neita of England and Julien Alfred of St Lucia to win the 100m gold medal.
She was also part of the Jamaican team that claimed a clean sweep of all medals in the recently concluded world athletics championships. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson opted to miss the common wealth games in order to save themselves for future competitions.
This commonwealth gold medal is good for Thompson-Herrah’s confidence because it will help her forget about her disappointing performance in the 200m race in Eugene. She finished in seventh position when Shericka Jackson recorded the fastest time in history. The silver medal was snatched by Fraser-Pryce.
After Saturday’s win, Thompson-Herrah took to her Twitter account to thank all her supporters for always believing in her even in bad times. She also wished Jamaicans a happy independence day. She emphasized that it’s always an honor to represent Jamaica in international events. She also promised to deliver more spectacular performances in the future.
Thomson-Herrah has always expressed her love for the black, green and gold.
