Reggae Boyz head coach Marcel Gayle expressed a positive tone even after admitting he was disappointed over Jamaica falling short of qualifying for the 2023 FIFA under-20 world cup. The under 20 world cup is scheduled to take place in Indonesia.

The Jamaicans lost 0-1 to the Dominican Republic after Angel Montes De Oca’s early strike. The loss happened during the recent quarter-finals of the 2022 Concacaf under 20 championships in Honduras.

Although it was a painful exit for the young Reggae Boyz, even Jamaican fan will admit that the Dominican Republic put in an excellent performance. The Dominican Republic defeated the Jamaican team due to limited time for preparation.

The group had nine team players based in the United Kingdom and North America, explaining why the group lacked chemistry.

The head coach thinks that the young players will represent the country well  in the future as they had good experiences and it was a team mixed with both local and international players. He also thinks that they have a bright future and need to spend time developing the skills of the young players.

During the early stage of the competition, Jamaica ended 1-1 with costa Rica. While playing a man down during the second half, they were swept aside 0-5 in wet and bad conditions by their hosts Honduras.

Nevertheless, the under-20 Boyz defeated Antigua and Barbuda 2-0 in the final match to advance to the round of 16. The defeat led to edging nine-man Haiti 2-1 before falling to the Dominican Republic. Striker Jahmari Clarke was Jamaica’s top scorer who hit three out of five goals.
