West Indies Appoints Chase as Test Captain

He will be deputized by Warrican

Roston Chase has been appointed as the new Test captain of Cricket West Indies. He will be deputized by fellow Barbadian Jomel Warrican.

Chase has enjoyed a long career as an all-rounder. The 33-year-old was appointed after a meeting at Kensington Oval. The CWI Board of Directors made this decision on Friday.

Chase was chosen ahead of five other candidates: Justin Greaves, Tevin Imlach, Warrican, Joshua Da Silva and John Campbell. The directors were forced to make an appointment because Kraigg Brathwaite had resigned from his captaincy. He resigned in the early stages of 2025.

The off spinner and middle order batsman made his debut against India in 2016. He has played a total of 49 test matches in his career. He scored 2265 runs that include 11 half centuries and five centuries. The runs came at an average of 26.33.

Chase used an economy rate of 3.45 to take 85 wickets.

He will have a daunting task during his first series as captain. The West Indies will be involved in a three-match Test series. They will compete against world number one Australia. The contest will happen at Kensington Oval on June 25.

On the other hand, Warrican has taken 73 wickets after playing in 19 Test matches. The 32-year-old achieved this at an economy rate of 3.05.
