Chicago Stars Fires Ex Reggae Girlz Coach Lorne Donaldson

He was fired because his team was struggling for wins in the National Women’s Soccer League

CHICAGO, USA — Lorne Donaldson has been released by The Chicago Stars football team. The ex-Reggae Girlz head coach was fired because his team was struggling for wins in the National Women’s Soccer League. They have won just one game in the last six appearances.

The team has replaced him with Masaki Hemmi. Previously, he was working as Donaldson’s assistant. He will serve in an interim capacity.

This was Donaldson’s second season in the Chicago-based team. He had arrived after enjoying a successful spell with Jamaica. He helped the Reggae Girlz make a deep run in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The Girlz had a good tournament although they were knocked out in the knockout stage.

There was hope that Donaldson would succeed when he arrived in Chicago. The Stars made the playoffs and went 10-14-2 in his first season.

The Stars have scored just three goals and accumulated five losses in the current season. They are the team with the least amount of goals in the league. They are also the team that conceded the most goals in the NWSL.

Chicago’s poor form hasn’t been helped by the absence of Mallory Swanson. The attacker is one of the key players in the team. Donaldson could have used his services in the current season.

“We would like to thank Lorne Donaldson for building a culture of self-belief and respect within the squad,” said Richard Feuz; who is the general manager of the club. He was speaking through a statement that was released on social media. “We know that he tried his best and that’s we wish him the best as he moves to his next project.”

The Stars visit Gotham FC on Sunday.
