Jamaica Basketball Association
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is played in two teams, with five players on each team. Your score is based on the number of shots made through the hoop on your opponent’s court. The goal is to beat the other team.

Basketball began in December 1891 when a physical education teacher and instructor at the YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, was looking for a way to keep gym class active on a rainy day. Initially, they had used a basket of peaches raised 10 feet high at each end of the court. Finally, they removed the bottom of the basket so the ball would fall right out. The ball reaches the basket through a pass, a touch, a shot, a spin, a dribble and a shot.
Nowadays, for official matches all the equipment is regulated. For the men’s game, the ball must have a circumference of 29.50 inches and must weigh 22 oz. For women, you must have a circumference of 28.5 inches and a weight of 20 oz. The court must be 28 meters long and 15 meters wide. The basket is now a steel ring with a diameter of 18 inches and a net attached to it. The board, where the steel ring is attached, measures 6 feet by 3.5 feet. It rises 10 feet high and 4 feet from the baseline.
