Asafa Powell Hoping To Contribute In Growth Of Track And Field

Retired Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell has revealed that he is hoping to continue contributing in the sport of track and field. He believes that upcoming athletes can learn from his experiences in the sport. He says he is hoping to remain involved in the sport and is eager to share his experience with upcoming athletes. He hanging up his spikes in 2022 after enjoying a career that was full of medals and many unforgettable moments.
The Jamaican is currently enjoying himself in Ghana. He visited the country on a personal pilgrimage. He has a soft spot for the African country because his wife Alyshia was born there. He is hoping to spend the next 10 days in Ghana together with his wife. This is Powell’s first ever visit to Ghana.
Powell’s visit is also meant to strengthen the sporting relationship between Jamaica and Ghana. He was pictured together with Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan. Gyan is remembered for carrying Ghana to the quarter finals but missing a crucial penalty against Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup.
Powell is hoping to encourage young Ghanaians to consider pursuing a career in track and field. The former 100m world record holder is hoping to work with coaching bodies, Olympic committees and track athletes.
Powell said that he hopes more retired athletes can continue being active in the sport. He believes that upcoming athletes can study their journeys and learn from their mistakes.
