Hallgrimsson’s team might need to beat Mexico in order to grab a semi-final spot in the Nations League

Reggae Boyz captain Andre Blake could miss the upcoming match against Mexico because of a groin injury.
This Concacaf Nations League match is supposed to happen in less than two weeks. This means that Blake might not have enough time to recuperate the March 26 game.
Blake got injured in a Major League Soccer game in which his team Philadelphia Union beat Chicago Fire in a 1-0 win last Saturday. The Reggae Boyz goalkeeper only managed to play until the 33th minute in the first half.
Union head coach, Jim Curtin, revealed that that the team doctors have conducted an MRI scan in order to determine the seriousness of Blake’s injury. According to close sources, the injury isn’t as serious as it appeared in the first place. The sources disclosed that it is grade 1 adductor strain. He is likely to a few weeks of football and not months as previously feared.
The international fixture has come a little too soon for Blake. Philadelphia Union is expected release the MRI results in the coming days.
Jamaica head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson will be frustrated with this news because Blake is one of the leaders in his team. The Reggae Boyz have already clinched a spot in this summer’s Gold Cup. The Jamaicans currently have five points and they sit on top of Group A. Hallgrimsson’s team might need to beat Mexico in order to grab a semi-final spot in the Nations League.
Blake’s last game for Jamaica was in a 3-0 defeat to Argentina in September. This was Hallgrimsson’s debut as the coach of the Jamaican national team.
Mexico will start off with a game against Suriname on March 23. This will be followed up with the Jamaica game. Fans will not be allowed to attend this game because Mexico is serving a FIFA ban.
