Following his hat-trick against Molynes, Dunn’s goal tally reached 14. He aims to reach 20 goals
Justin Dunn, the standout striker for Tivoli Gardens in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL), entered this season fueled by personal determination, a response to his previous season’s challenges.
Dunn, who scored a hat-trick in Tivoli’s recent 6-3 triumph over Molynes United, revealed his dissatisfaction with last season’s limited playing time under coach Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson. However, Dunn saw this setback as a catalyst to silence his critics in the current campaign.
Reflecting on his journey, Dunn expressed pride in overcoming obstacles since joining Tivoli at 17 without Manning Cup experience. He emphasized the perseverance required to earn his place, especially amidst skepticism from certain coaches who favored experience over youth.
“The past season was particularly tough for me. Coach Williams departed, and with Teddy taking over, I struggled to find my form and gain his confidence,” Dunn explained. “But I channeled those setbacks into motivation. This season became personal as I aimed to prove my worth and silence the doubters.”
Dunn revealed that many players have found it difficult to establish themselves at Tivoli. He believes that they failed because they lacked commitment and undying will to succeed.
Following his hat-trick against Molynes, Dunn’s goal tally reached 14. This means that he leads his closest competitor with three goals. While he doesn’t mind winning an individual award, Dunn stressed that his primary focus remains on team success.
He told journalists that his aim is to score 20 goals this season. This will be an impressive achievement considering there are only two games remaining. However, he is determined score six goals in the next two games. Dunn said that he hopes to win the Golden Boot award although his main aim is to help Tivoli clinch the league title.
Despite grappling with an earlier injury, Dunn admitted he hasn’t yet reached his peak performance. However, he assured fans that he’s diligently working to regain his explosiveness and anticipates hitting top form for the playoffs. He was also full of praise for Coach Jerome Waite who he credits for his improvements.
In conclusion, Dunn’s journey epitomizes resilience and determination, serving as an inspiration for aspiring players navigating similar challenges in the competitive realm of football.
