She defeated Dina Asher-Smith in a tight race that also involved Sha’Carri Richardson
Julien Alfred continued with her outstanding season by winning the 100m race in the Diamond League.
She secured this trophy in what was the opening day of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme. This tournament is being hosted in Brussels. Olympic 100m champion
The St Lucian sprinter began the the race strongly and she managed to maintain this momentum. However, Dina Asher-Smith was very competitive and she pushed Alfred to her limit. The two sprinters are training partners and that’s why it isn’t surprising that they brought the best out of each other.
Alfred separated herself from her competition in the closing stages of the race. She finished the race with an impressive time of 10.88 (0.2m/s). Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith finished second with a time of (10.92).
The third position was taken by Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou. She finished with a time of 11.05. On the other hand, Sha’Carri Richardson faded to eighth position and was never in contention. The World champion has been having a tournament to forget. She clocked a time of 11.23. Richardson came in with momentum after winning the Zurich Diamond League.
Alfred showed her dominance when she clinched the gold medal in the recently concluded Olympics Games. She proceeded to compete in the 200 meter race where she secure a silver medal. She became the first athlete to ever win an Olympic medal for Saint Lucia.
