The Man City striker completed 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal Women
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw completed 90 minutes in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal Women. The two Women’s Super League teams were playing during the opening weekend of the league. The game was played in the gunners’ Emirates Stadium.
The Jamaican is returning from a foot injury that sidelined her in later stages of the last WSL season. Despite this, she was awarded with the WSL Golden Boot award after registering 21 goals in 18 appearances. She was also recognized as the best WSL player by the Professional Footballer’s Association.
However, she wasn’t among the goal-scorers in her team’s latest match against Arsenal. Arsenal opened their account in the eighth minute thanks to a goal by Norwegian Frida Maanum. City pulled back one goal when Vivianne Miedema struck in the 42nd minute to ensure that the two teams went into the break with a 1-1 draw.
Manchester City pulled away when Jessica Park added a second goal just 13 minutes into the second half. The England international delivered a devastating shot from outside the box and it wasn’t surprising that the Arsenal goalkeeper remained rooted to the spot.
Arsenal continued fighting back and their efforts were rewarded in the 81st minute when Beth Mead scored the final goal. This goal meant that the two teams went home with one point.
Manchester City’s next match will be against Paris FC on Thursday. This is a qualifier match for the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Citizens won the first leg with a score-line of 5-0.
Shaw didn’t play in this Champions League game because of visa problems. Manchester City tried to acquire this document but they failed to complete it in time.
