“PAKISTAN SWEEP TO BOOST THE WEST INDIES WOMEN,” SAYS FAST BOWLER CONNELL

2 min read

Shamilia Connell, the fastest bowler said that the three-match series sweep against Pakistan will be very important in keeping the momentum for the West Indies Women. The match that happened recently was important for the Women as they prepare for the ICC World Cup qualifiers that will take place in Zimbabwe, Africa.

The West Indies Women took victory home with 45 runs in the opening One- day International and with 37 runs in the second. This win came after they completed their first away series since the last one five years ago. Connell went on to say that the team has been working so hard towards a clean sweep. She is certain that the sweep will really revitalize the team. With the coming World Cup qualifiers starting from 21st November to 5th December, she says that the girls have been doing their best, moving from strength to strength.

She hoped that they would complete the series with a clean sweep and a major win against Pakistan. She was not adamant to admit that even though they did relax during the last game, the team’s mood was high with the win against Pakistan. She added that she was looking forward to seeing the Women head straight to the qualifiers and complete the series victoriously as they set their eyes on next year’s World Cup which will be held in New Zealand.

However, West Indies Women have given conflicting performances even with their success in this series particularly with the bat. They managed to gather 253 in the opening ODI where Deandra Dottin hit 132 and 153 in the next match. Connell acknowledged the inconsistency and said that the team had learnt very important lessons from the two games.

She went added that the players had to be regrouped since they hadn’t started the second game on the right foot. She was certain that they would improve tremendously when they participate in the anticipated third game which will include fielding, bowling and batting.

She urged the team not to give up but to keep on pushing and fighting. Connell also made sure that she was recognized in the last ODI after she snatched the best figures of 3 for eighteen and 9 overs. This move helped the West Indies Women in protecting their small total.

The victory over Pakistan redeemed the West Indies Women from the recent series held in the Caribbean where they lost in a 4-1 defeat. Connell acknowledged that the team’s unity was what helped them in recovering so fast. She said that they had to go back to the drawing board, align their objectives, set achievable goals and work hard towards realizing them. This is after they suffered in the hands of South Africa in the previous series. They vowed to build and push each other towards their desired goals.
