In another JPL clash, Montego Bay United lost by three goals to Harbour View
Vere United was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw after Treasure Beach gave them a run for their money. The two teams were left ruing their missed opportunities after the game. The two teams were competing in a Jamaica Premier League match. The game was held in the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
The two teams created quality opportunities but the strikers simply didn’t have their scoring boots.
Victor Ebanks, the Treasure Beach coach, said that he was happy with his team’s performance. However, he felt that his players lacked the quality and motivation required to secure the winning goal.
He was happy that his team stuck to his game plan in the first half. However, he feels that his team failed to execute his tactics in the second half. He believes that his players were struggling because of fatigue. Players normally get tired when it comes to the end of the season. He called for his players to “dig a little deeper” in the upcoming games.
The two teams had their moments of sustained attacking pressure in the two halves. In the first half, the best chances fell to Treasure Beach but the players failed to take their chances. Shanoy Smith and Romario Bryan were the main playmakers for the St Elizabeth-based team.
Tedlar Parchment had an early opportunity after he was played in by Bryan. However, he missed his shot despite only having the goalkeeper to beat. He ended up firing wide from 12 yards out. Tavar Thompson also came close to scoring Treasure Beach after Smith found him with a beautiful cross in the box.
Vere also had an opportunity that ricocheted off the crossbar at the stroke of halftime.
Vere took hold of the game in the second half but they also failed to convert their chances despite creating numerous opportunities.
Linval Dixon, the Vere United head coach, blamed the lackluster performance on his players lacking motivation. However, he was happy that his team defended well and didn’t concede any goal. He promised that his players would put up a better show in the next match.
This result means that Vere United have accumulated 27 points and they sit ninth in the table. On the other hand, Treasure Beach sit 13th in the table having already been relegated.
