According to various sources, Jamaican Omari Hutchinson will not be representing the Jamaican national team on Wednesday when they face Cameroon after he was asked not to do so by his club Chelsea FC.
Several sources such as the Athletic revealed that the Chelsea squad will likely be heavily rotated especially with the Carabao Cup match against Manchester City and the World Cup both looming thus giving Hutchinson a rare first-team chance.
The implication that Chelsea had taken this trend became clearer yesterday when Hutchinson failed to be picked to the club’s under-21 fixture. Hutchinson has off late been placed closer and closer to Graham Potter’s side on the field and last week, he was among the squad that faced Brighton and Hove Albion. However, he was a substitute that never got on the field in the match that saw them encounter a 4-1 loss.
The 20-year-old forward first joined Chelsea FC in 2008. He later moved to Charlton Athletic in 2012 before relocating to Arsenal where he played for 7 years. This is when his skills caught the Jamaica Football Federation’s attention. He returned to Chelsea in 2022.
Hutchinson hasn’t only played an international friendly match for Jamaica, meaning that he can still play for England. The Reggae Boyz focus on safeguarding his interest so that he can participate in an official game.
