This is a dream come true for the experienced Sunshine Girl

Shanice Beckford, an experienced Sunshine Girl netballer, has been announced a player of Australia’s West Coast Fever. The Jamaican is excited at the idea of playing for the Perth-based team.

The 28-year-old will join five other Jamaicans who already play in the Suncorp Super Netball League (SNL). Some of the other Jamaica seniors who play in this league include Kadian Dehaney and Jhaniele Fowler. Beckford is expected to play for her new team in the 2024 season.

This is a dream come true for the experienced player, who has represented the Jamaican national netball team since she was 18 years old.

Beckford told journalists that she is struggling to process this latest development in her career. She claimed that she was on the verge of giving up her dream of playing SNL league. This is despite harboring this dream since she was a teenager.

Apart from the elation of achieving a life-long dream, Beckford said that she also feels the trepidation of walking into the unknown.

She revealed that her excitement has come with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety. She is nervous about the unknown but she remains excited for what’s to come. She is making a mental preparation for the upcoming stage of her career.

Beckford can fall back on her experiences when she played away from home. She previously played for an English team that is known as Northumbria. This team plays in an elite netball league that is known as the Vitality Super League. Beckford played along with Nicole Dixon.

Beckford has grown older since her time in England in 2015. She believes that she is in a better position to handle a new adventure in a foreign land. She revealed that she learns something new about herself every time she travels.

Beckford believes that her performances will improve because of playing in the SNL. This is because the SNL is a very competitive league and she will also have access to better facilities. These improvements will be important in her future appearances for the Jamaican national team.

Beckford contributed in Jamaica’s silver and bronze medal-winning teams that participated in the Commonwealth Games. She also played in this year’s Netball World Cup where the Sunshine Girls won a bronze medal.
