Springers United Sports Club History
Springers United Sports Club was started in May 2018 by Owen Odane Barrett. His desire for
peace and unity amongst the youth in Salt Spring brought a community plagued by gang
warfare and violence together around community sports.
Fulfilling Barrett’s vision to cultivate peace and unity, the club simultaneously formed a football
team. Built from players spanning the entire community, the team united youth from warring
neighborhoods, and by crossing borders, created friendships and comraderies. Players, who up
until recently fought against each other in their respective gangs, now make up a Division 2
football team that represents the Salt Spring community competing in the St. James Parish.
