Arsenal wants Reggae Boy Shamar Nicholson

2 min read

Emerging reports from Belgium suggest that Arsenal football club is interested in signing Jamaican striker Shamar Nicholson. He has been in good form and he currently plays for Charleroi in the Belgian First Division A.

Arsenal might go for a striker in January and it is therefore not surprising that they are looking at Nicholson. He is the most productive attacker in his team this season, with eight goals and three assists.

Nicholson has previously stated his admiration for Arsenal. In a 2018 interview, he revealed that he has always been a supporter of Arsenal since he was a small kid.

The 25-year-old may not be on the Gunners’ level yet, because as written in the report, he ‘does not claim to be able to play’ there. Still, it’s said he ‘dreams’ of being in the Premier League.

According to reports, Charleroi is already looking for another striker to replace Nicholson and this would suggest that they are making plans to sell him in the next transfer window.

Interest from other clubs

Arsenal might not be the only English clubs that has been observing our Jamaican star. Reports suggest that other English premier league clubs like Southampton and Everton have taken note of Nicholson’s interest to play in England. Scouts from Rangers, Southampton and Everton were present to watch him play against Anderlecht in a recent game.

There is certainly space for a new striker in Arsenal because Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette and English youngster Eddie Nketiah will both be out of their contract at the end of this season. Another striker, Folarin Balogun, is also expected to be sent out on loan in the January transfer period. This means that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only experienced striker that will be left in Arsenal. However, even Aubameyang has been struggling to score goals since last season.

It’s for all the above reasons that Arsenal are looking for a striker. Aside from Nicholson, the English team has also been linked to strikers like Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
