TT Players Return to Jamaica After Being Stranded in Dominican Republic

The Team Recently Participated in the Caribbean Table Tennis Youth Championships

Last Thursday, all the 22 members of the Jamaica table tennis team were stranded in the Dominican Republic due to a halt of operations at the Jamaica Air Traffic Controllers Association. The team has now made it safe back to Jamaica.

Andrew Lue, Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA) president, told various media outlets that their flights were confirmed on Friday. He then travelled on Saturday, followed by six members on Sunday and the remaining 15 arrived home on Monday.

Lue further revealed that a chaperone and the coaches were assigned his duties after he left the Dominican Republic. He also disclosed that the team received much assistance from the president of the ITTF Americas, Juan Villa.

Moreover, the ministry of sports promised to recoup the team for the extra expenses spent during the extended stay. The ministry of foreign affair also contacted the Jamaican embassy in the country and bought the team members food.

Lue also disclosed that the team’s performance at the Caribbean Table Tennis Youth Championships was not that bad but was also not satisfying. He said that the team would have gotten better results if they had put in a little more work and had better luck.

He concluded by saying that they were looking forward to the future since the team has a good crop of young players whom if given good exposure and opportunities will see the team rip better results in future.
