Antonio and Other Big Names Missing in Latest Squad to Play the Last Three World Cup Qualifiers

Paul Hall Called Up Many Local-Based Players

Paul Hall, the Interim head coach of the Reggae Boyz, has named the final squad to compete in the last three games of the world cup qualifiers. These games will be against Honduras, Canada and El Salvador.

There have been many complains from fans following this squad announcement. Many Jamaican fans are unhappy that Hall ignored many big-name players. Some of the most notable absentees include West Ham striker Michail Antonio, Junior Flemmings, Russian-based Shamar Nicholson, Brentford FC’s Ethan Pinnock.

However, the often-injured Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has been recalled now that he has recovered from his recent injury issues.

Spartak Moscow’s Shamar Nicholson availability remains unclear since Russia is in the middle of a war with Ukraine.

The squad includes goalkeepers Andre Blake, Dillon Barnes and Amal Knight, defenders Damion Lowe, Richard King, Adrian Mariappa, Javain Brown, Gregory Leigh, Jamoi Topey, and Ricardo Thomas, midfielders Alex Marshall, Nicholas Nelson, Tarick Ximines, Lamar Walker, and Dwayne Atkinson, and forwards Leon Bailey, Andre Gray, Daniel Green, and Atapharoy Bygrave.

Michail Antonio is Jamaica’s most talented player but his performances for Westham have dropped in recent months. He has not been as prolific as he was in the beginning of the season. He has been looking knackered in the last few weeks and maybe it’s because he has played most games for West ham. His workload has also increased since this is the first season he has ever played for Jamaica. It’s possible that Westham coaches asked Paul Hall not to call him up since Jamaica cannot qualify to the world cup. They might want him to rest so that he can be rejuvenated when Westham returns to the English premier league.

Jamaica’s first game will be against El Salvador on Thursday, 24th March 2022. They will then face off against Canada on Sunday, 27th March 2022. The final game will be played against Honduras on Wednesday 30st March, 2022.
